Alan Maitland Smith, Chairman of NBF’s CSR Committee handing over the cheque to Angel Appeal in support of seafarers off the coast of Fujairah
The National Bank of Fujairah (NBF) announced that it has donated AED 100,000 to the Angel Appeal, a charitable initiative that cares for seafarers off the east coast of the UAE. The funds will go towards fuelling the Flying Angel, a boat that provides welfare and communication services to seamen at anchor off the coast of Fujairah.
Alan Maitland Smith - Head of Internal Audit and Chairman of NBF’s CSR Committee said that the sponsorship is a natural extension of the Bank’s commitment to its home emirate: “Fujairah’s success as a shipping and oil bunkering hub is well established. What is perhaps less well-known is the living conditions of seafarers who have contributed to its achievements: many of them are unable to come ashore and have limited access to material comforts or communication facilities for contacting families back home”.
“Just as NBF is proud to play a role in Fujairah’s economic achievements, we are glad to partner Angel Appeal in their efforts and will work closely with them to extend a helping hand to those in need.”
The Angel Appeal falls under the auspices of Mission to Seafarers, an organisation that provides support to seafarers regardless of race or religion in over 300 ports across the world. Its “Flying Angel” vessel goes out to sea daily and comes equipped with facilities ranging from an internet café to a small shop selling daily essentials.
Karen Malia - CSR Manager Angle Appeal said: “We are delighted to have an established and well-respected partner such as NBF onboard. Their generosity will obviously go a great way towards meeting the Flying Angel’s operational requirements but also lend further credibility to our cause, and I am confident that this partnership with NBF will be a fulfilling one for all parties involved, especially for the thousands of seafarers that call the waters off Fujairah home.”
