Qatar Tourism Authority and in collaboration with the Private Engineering Office and the Qatar Tennis Federation drew crowds of families to Palm Island for five days full of sports and family entertainment from National Sports Day on 12th February up to Saturday, 16th February. Families were treated to a free boat ride to the intriguing island that was specially activated for the holiday to celebrate and participate in a host of different sports activities.
The boat rides to the island proved a huge success as families queued to take the 10 minute dhow boat trip to Palm Island and then visibly enjoyed the ferry ride with its close up views of the Corniche and Doha’s iconic skyline on the shore. On arrival families were welcomed with soft drinks, mineral water and fruit and invited to take part in different sports from mini tennis to volleyball, racing track, Billiard, playing pool and bouncy castle entertainment, as well as face painting. There were even races between cartoon characters - Smurfs, Sponge Bob and Barney - to entertain the kids and underline the importance of sport for a healthy lifestyle.
During the first day, and on the return boat trip families were treated on one day to a grandstand view of the international Doha Powerboat races, watching the world’s fastest boats fly by on the water at high speed from the dhow ferry deck.
QTA’s contribution with partners Qatar Tennis Federation and the Private Engineering Office on this national sports occasion, proved a huge success.
