Sharjah Islamic Bank is continuing to distribute Iftar meal packages at its annual Iftar tent located on King Faisal Mosque Square in Sharjah. The daily Iftar programme is being organised by the bank at the same venue for the 9th consecutive year, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives during the holy month of Ramadan. The tent is serving 1200 meals everyday and targets 35000 meal packages this year.
Sharjah Islamic Bank clarified that the tent’s location was selected based on an in-depth study which showed that the surrounding areas contain bus stations and highly crowded assembly points of labourers, municipal services employees, drivers, and security guards in addition to the mosque goers and nearby residents, mostly from limited income groups.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Ahmed Saad, Deputy CEO of Sharjah Islamic Bank, said: “The Holy Month of Ramadan has a special significance for the bank as we work to support charitable initiatives throughout the year. Various Iftar programmes are being organised across the country, demonstrating the benevolence and philanthropy that are hallmarks of our country. We are pleased to carry out this project for the 9th year in a row and delighted to expand this lofty traditional Islamic gesture year on year.” He stressed that SIB’s commitment to the path of the country’s leaders in supporting charity and that this humanitarian initiative is in line with its objectives and values and reflects the executive management’s eagerness to actively implement principles of corporate social responsibility as SIB is member of the community within which it operates.
He noted that Sharjah Islamic Bank has formed a committee from the bank’s employees to oversee the Iftar tent on daily basis and to ensure fasting people are provided with healthy nutrient rich meals. “Each meal package contains 12 food and beverage items including fruits and desserts and the meal packages are served in a clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned venue,” he said.
He added that Sharjah Islamic Bank has expanded this initiative from 600 meals in 2005 to 1000 meals in 2013. “The tent has, also, expanded from 15x25m to 17x35m. The tent is fully equipped and provided with a service team of 10 people,” he clarified.
Saad added that Sharjah Islamic Bank is collaborating with Sharjah Charity Society, for the third consecutive year, in hosting an air-conditioned Iftar tent in Muweilah area on Mohammed bin Zayed Road, near Bin Dalmouk Mosque in Sharjah. This Iftar project aims to provide Iftar meals for 25,000 to 30,000 fasting labourers during Ramadan.
The Iftar tent in Muweilah is sponsored by Sharjah Islamic Bank and organised by Sharjah Charity Society. Over 1000 meals are distributed everyday through the tent.
