The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is participating in the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival with an extensive package of child-related activities, including educational workshops and a series of children’s publications about Sharjah Museums.
SMD's participation includes the launch of three new releases of the children's book series ‘Hamdan and Alia’, at Sharjah Science Museum, Al Mahatta Museum and Sharjah Archeology Museum.
The series, in both Arabic and English, is a beautifully illustrated, warm and inviting story about the museums in Sharjah that will engage children in a very attractive and exciting manner. The Calligraphy Museum has also launched an interactive booklet titled ‘The Calligrapher and Skillful Illustrator’, which is dedicated to teaching children about Arabic calligraphy and some of the most famous Arabic scripts.
SMD's participation also includes 6 educational and heritage workshops presented by Sharjah Maritime Museum, held on the sidelines of the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival. The workshops titled ‘Screen Ship Model’, ‘Frame’, ‘Stimulating Children’s Minds’, ‘Recycling’ and ‘Decorate your boat’ . Children will also get a chance to participate in a fishing competition which aims to teach children about the local fishing tools and methods in a fun and interactive way. The workshops provide an opportunity for the children to be creative in dealing with the marine environment and marine resources, in order to create their own pieces of craftwork.
There is also an exhibition titled ‘The Palm’ accompanying the workshops throughout the 12-day festival that deals with the relation between the palm tree and sea and fishing tools made from palm trees, such as Jufair, rowing and diving tools, floor carpets, Garageer, Mahafih, Mekhbat and Dafah.
