SouqExtra!, the UAE’s national chain of community retail centres, has joined hands with PROSHRED,the secure document shredding service by averda, to launch a campaign designed to promote secure and environmentally responsible practices and encourage people to recycle more.
The Document Shredding and Electronic Waste Recycling campaign, which takes place from November 10 to 24, will allow community residents in Dubai to destroy sensitive documents on-site in one of PROSHRED®’s state-of-the-art mobile shredding vehicles, while helping the environment as all the shredded paper and e-waste collected will be recycled. Community residents can bring their old paperwork (bank statements, receipts, medical records, envelopes, legal documents) and electronic waste (computers, laptops, keyboards, copiers, monitors, mobile phones) to designated collection points at SouqExtra!’s community centres in the emirate.
“Beyond facilitating the collection and destruction of paper and e-waste, this campaign will aim to encourage a culture of recycling and environmental responsibility in community residents,” said Justin Wilshaw, CEO of SouqExtra!. “At SouqExtra!, we are actively engaged in reducing our carbon footprint by recycling 80% of all the waste in the communities that we serve, and the recycling initiative provides us an opportunity to continue our efforts in this direction by leveraging averda’s industry-leading expertise in environmental services.”
Anis Solh, Managing Director, averda Proshred, “Even as public awareness of sustainable practices is on the rise and people are now increasingly eager to contribute to the recycling cause, they often find themselves faced with practical hurdles in terms of how to productively dispose of recyclable items, primarily due to a lack of information and opportunity. Our initiative with SouqExtra! seeks to address this problem by providing community residents with designated waste collection points at a convenient, easily accessible location, and creating sufficient awareness about the initiative to ensure they are encouraged to take part.”
The community shredding and recycling event will take place at SouqExtra! Dubai centres in Al Barsha, Al Quoz and Ewan Residences over 3 consecutive Saturdays from November 10 through November 24.
The fastest growing community retail centre business in the UAE, SouqExtra!’s community centres ensure a superior quality of life for residents via lower carbon emissions delivered through energy-efficient design, automated recycling programmes and reduced vehicular travel.
