DP World has presented its future expansion plans to be implemented in DP world-Vancouver Terminal. This came during a high-level meeting attended by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, and the Honorable Ed Fast, Canada’s Minister of International Trade.
During the meeting aimed at discussing DP World’s future development plans in Vancouver, the Chairman of the Dubai global ports operator H.E. Sultan bin Sulayem presented the third expansion of Vancouver Port, stating that the new expansion is expected to increase the port’s capacity to 1 million TEU. “DP World, in cooperation with Canada Ports, has started the construction works of a new port in Vancouver Island to meet the growing flow of exports to USA, which will raise Canada’s overall export capacities,” he said.
Sultan bin Sulayem enumerated the great achievements attained by DP World as it operates Vancouver ports. “DP World is keen on supporting the development efforts in Canada’s ports sector through by delivering top-notch services at DP World-Vancouver Terminal. The new expansions will boost the capacities of Vancouver Port which is the main gateway of trade between Canada and Asia-Indian Ocean markets.”
On his side, Ed Fast pointed out that the government of Canada has allocated CAD 4.5 billion to develop its fright and transportation infrastructure so as to keep up with the projected growth in various economic sectors.
Bin Sulayem also took part in an expanded meeting, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed held with major Canadian investment and logistics companies, in the presence of Canada’s Minster of International Trade.
The Chairman of DP World also attended another meeting, held by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed as part of the Foreign Minster’s official visit to Canada, with a number of business leaders in Vancouver. Sultan bin Sulayem who presented the UAE's investment potentials backed by a conducive legal infrastructure, emphasized the advanced services offered in seaports and airports and the overall country's infrastructure that fulfils the highest global standards.
DP World-Vancouver terminal is located in the inner harbour of downtown Vancouver, and is a key gateway port for the Trans-Pacific Trades between Asia and the Pacific North West. In addition to serving the local market for British Columbia, DP World Vancouver provides direct daily intermodal rail connection to the important markets of Eastern Canada and the US Mid West, covered by both Canadian Pacific (CP) and Canada National (CN) railway.
DP World Vancouver continues to be a leader in the application of advanced technology with GPS tracked RTG along with Optical Character Readers (OCR) being introduced at the truck gate, rail gate and gantry quay cranes. In 2007, DP World Vancouver was the first container terminal in North America to be certified to ISO/PAS 28000, the highest independent security certification, and is an accredited member of C-TPAT.
