du listed as top MENA teleport in WTA’s annual top 20 listings
World Teleport Association (WTA)’s recent rankings of the Top Teleport Operators of 2011 places the UAE’s fastest-growing telecommunications company, du, in the top 20 of its three listings: The Independent Top Twenty (9th), The ‘Fast Twenty’ (17th) and The Global Top Twenty (20th). du’s strong position in all three lists is an indication of the capabilities and aspirations of the company during 2011. du is showcasing its broadcast services and innovative du TV (IPTV) platform at CABSAT – the Middle East’s largest digital media and satellite expo, from 28 February-1 March.
The annual ranking looks into the diverse broadcast sector of the global communications industry, this year taking into consideration the total spend on satellite capacity for the first time.
“To be included in one top 20 list is an achievement, but for our achievements to be recognised and placed amongst the world’s finest in three WTA listings is an incredible feat, and one that we are proud of,” said Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du.
du ranked 9th in The Independent Top Twenty, a listing based on revenue collected from all sources, with a focus on the independent operators at the core of the business, excluding companies whose primary business is ownership and operation of a satellite fleet or terrestrial network.
Companies ranked in The ‘Fast Twenty’ list are assessed based on year-over-year revenue growth in their most recent fiscal years. du claimed the 17th spot on the list.
In The Global Top Twenty, a ranking based on revenues from all customised communications sources, du was a newcomer to the list, taking the 20th position amongst some of the world’s leading telecom companies.
Last year, du’s broadcasting division increased the number of television channels available to its customers, as well as increasing revenues by diversifying revenue streams by launching new platforms on different satellites. Additionally, the telecom’s national fibre links were expanded to connect to the TwoFour54 Media Cluster in Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Media premises,
