Qatar Airways requesting $270 million to buy six A320s
Qatar Airways is planning to buy six new Airbus A320 aircraft from the Toulouse-based Airbus Industrie, and the Reuters news agency reported that the airline has mandated a consortium of foreign and Qatari banks to raise about $270 million to finance the purchase.
The banks involved in the consortium are Barclays Capital of Britain, Vereinsbank AG of Germany and the Qatar National Bank. According the Bahrain Tribune,a source at Qatar Airways conformed that the banks have agreed to put up 100 percent of the requested loan.
In 1999, a $500 million agreement was signed between Qatar Airlines and Airbus according to 11 aircraft would be acquired by the airline over a five-year period from 2000. Nonetheless, a Qatar Airlines representative would not say whether the five remaining aircraft would ever be ordered.
The six aircraft that were just ordered will be delivered between late 2001 and mid-2003. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
