Saudi Arabia, Syria to set up free trade zone
Saudi Arabia and Syria have decided to set up a free trade zone, the official news agency SPA reported Monday, February 12. It said a Saudi cabinet meeting chaired by King Fahd tasked Economy and Finance Minister Ibrahim bin Abdul Aziz Al-Assad with signing an accord, but it gave no details.
Syria signed a free trade accord with Iraq in January. The projects are part of a wider effort launched by the Arab League's 22 members in 1998 to set up a free zone throughout the region and phase out customs barriers by 2007. —(AFP)
