Saudi Group launches worldwide pro-Islamic media campaign
In a bid to offset anti-Arab exposure in the West, the Saudi Dallah Al-Baraka Group (DBG) is preparing to launch a $100 million media campaign across the US and Europe. The investment organization hopes to begin broadcasting by the beginning of next year.
The Group is in discussions with Arab businessmen to set up a Europe-based company to air two television channels and manage a news agency. The first proposed channel would broadcast English programming aimed at non-Muslims. The second channel would be aimed at non-Arab Muslims to explain ‘real Islam’, stated DBG’s Chairman, Saleh Kamel.
DBG’s initiative hopes to create an alternative to the mainstream media’s depiction of Islam through ‘the bad example of terrorism’, Kamel added. The Chairman founded the Arab world’s first private television channel and owns 20 radio and television stations.
Headquartered in Jeddah, the Dallah-Al-Baraka Group is a global investment organization. It has an annual business budget of six billion dollars with operations in 43 countries around the world.
