Saudi Specialized Medical Center expands facilities
The Riyadh-based Specialist Medical Center recently announced plans to expand its services and patient capacity by constructing a new health clinic near its original compound, according to Al-Hayat daily.
The new clinic will hold 200 hospital beds, in addition to the 65 presently available at the center. Saleh Qenbar, director general of the center, estimated the total investment in the new annex at 200 million Saudi riyals ($53.3 million).
The Saudi health sector has recently undergone significant development. The number of hospitals, clinics and health centers in the Kingdom stood at 3,450 in 1998. This included more than 300 different private and public hospitals, with an overall capacity of 44,450 beds.
Nearly 220 of these medical facilities are under government control, while 85 are operated by the private sector. ― (MENA Report)
