Sony: Making Dreams, Linking Worlds
Company Press Release:
For the first time in this region, Sony will reveal two of its "gateway" products - VAIO and PlayStation 2 at Gitex 2000, highlighting how these products will lead consumers into the future by presenting them with an "easy and fun" digital lifestyle.
The Gitex spotlight will also be on the Memory Stick — Sony's revolutionary, universal data storage device that has already set a new standard in data storage and transfer. As small as a chewing gum stick, the Memory Stick can inter-link the VAIO, Sony's new notebook and its range of various digital audio and video products, as well as the much-awaited PlayStation 2.
Sony Gulf has already introduced a number of Memory Stick compatible digital products into the regional market — in the digital still camera category are the Cybershot cameras that utilize the Memory Stick to store images and videos. The latest in the Cybershot range is the DSC-P1, which boasts a 3.34 million pixel CCD, a pop-up 3x zoom lens with a compact design. Understandably, the "P" in DSC-P1 stands for "Pocket", "Portable", "Pleasure" and Play".
The most advanced Digital Handycam are also compatible with the Memory Stick and combine superb resolution and Carl Zeiss lens to deliver excellent image quality. There is also the Memory Stick Walkman, which has been developed to support the rapidly emerging market for Electronic Music Distribution (EMD) services over digital networks such as the Internet.
In addition to the existing product line, Sony will be hinting at what consumers can expect in the future through a display of its concept Memory Stick compatible products. These are the MS Walkman, MS Voice Recorder and the MS GSM of the future, all three of which are in miniature sizes — barely bigger than the Memory Stick itself. In addition, the future includes the MS Hi-Fi System, MS MD/CD/DVD player, tiny telescopic digital cameras, Photo EATA and a Discman.
With the imminent introduction of its VAIO series of notebook PCs scheduled for the fourth week of November in UAE, Sony Gulf is set to make its mark in the region's notebook PC retail market. From the first day of Gitex, consumers in the UAE can book their VAIO on the Sony Gulf website or at the Sony stand, ahead of its availability in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. No ordinary notebook, the feature-packed and compact VAIO (Video Audio Integrated Operation), offers easy inter-connection of audio and video features with computing and communication functions.
Having already created waves since its launch in Japan in March 2000, visitors to the Sony stand can be the first in the region to experience the PlayStation 2. Building on the success of its predecessor, PlayStation 2 is designed to bring together movies, music and games to form a new world of computer entertainment that combines breathtaking digital graphics, superb sound and DVD video.
The Sony stand will also be introducing its "pet" display, the AIBO, which is a canine entertainment robot able to communicate with people through its rich variety of emotions and expressions as well as has an ability to learn.
Other Sony products to be showcased at Gitex will include its digital imaging products — the Handycam, new Cybershot and Mavica and range of digital still cameras that will demonstrate Sony's leading edge in digital imaging, processing and web page applications.
Along with the line up of VAIO models will be the VAIO PictureGear that features a built-in video camera that clicks pictures and automatically downloads them into the computer. Other highlights include Sony's GSM mobiles — the CMD Z5 and CMD J5; the latest LCD projector, Trinitron monitors and LCD panels and a wide range of data media products.
The Sony Gulf stand will be located at L41 in Hall No. 4.
