Sudan to impose VAT on petroleum products, as consumption on rises
The Sudanese Energy Ministry is looking for an alternative method for imposing the value added tax (VAT) on petroleum products, without increasing the oil prices.
The Undersecretary of Energy, Mr. Hassan Mohammed, told recently to al-Hayat daily that a new decision would soon be issued to impose the VAT on petroleum products, along with the new public budget.
Mr. Mohammed revealed that the domestic petroleum consumption has grown dramatically in the past three years. The Sudanese official described this rise as "extraordinary," with the benzene consumption rising by 25 percent and the gasoline consumption by 33 percent. (MEBG-Albawaba)
