Syria to boost oil refinery capacity

Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sofian Alao has stressed the country's bid to raise oil refining capacity through establishing new and develop oil refineries to meet the local market needs. Chairing the meeting of Petroleum Refining and Distribution Committee on Saturday, Alao pointed out, according to SANA, to a number of new projects to be established in Syria, namely al-Fireglous Refinery, eastern Homs, which is to be established following an agreement signed by Syria, Iran and Venezuela. The new JV will boast a 140,000 bpd capacity.
The memo of understanding proposed to sign with Nour Company for Investments on carrying out technical and economic studies of Dir-Ezzor refinery with a capacity estimated at 140,000 bpd and establishing an oil refinery in Dir-Ezzor with 70,000 bpd in cooperation with Chinese partners were also discussed in the meeting.
