Syria produces 33 tons of silk threads
Breeding and production of natural silk is an old tradition in Syria. In 2003, the Ministry of Agriculture set up the Silk Project Department to promote this sector by using modern technology.
Earlier, the General Company for the Manufacturing of Natural Silk was founded in Dreikish, Tartous Province in 1980.
The Company’s annual production amounted to 33 tons of silk threads. This sum needs about 230 tons of ‘green cocoons’. (menareport.com)
