Syria reports big increase in electricity demand, generation
A report by the Syrian Arab News Agency on Sunday indicated a significant development in the local electricity sector during the last decade.
The high electricity loading has reached to 1,928 Megawatt in 1990 while it reached 4,128 Megawatt in 2002 with an annual development estimated at 7.9%. Meanwhile, electricity consumption in 1990 stood at 10,664 million KWPH and jumped to 23,465 million KWPH in 2000, thus the annual development average of energy demand during the said period hit 8.2%, the report said.
To deal with the increasing demand and avoid energy weakness that appeared in 1993 the ministry of electricity has worked to deal with the situation by building new power plants in all governorates.
In 1990, the total energy generation reached 11,475 million KWPH and rose to 25,217 million KWPH at the end of 2000. (menareport.com)
