Tunisia: More tourists arrive to Sousse
Tourist activity in Sousse province showed significant developments during the first half of the current year, reported the July 31 edition of al-Sahafa newspaper. The latest data of Sousse tourism indicated that the number of tourists arriving the region on camels increased during the first six months of 2005 to reach 462,640 arrivals compared to 427,39 in the same period of last year. The nights spent by tourists who arrived by camels increased from 2,791, 956 nights in the equivalent period last year to 3,600,174 nights this year, 7.7% up.
This region offers 110 hotel units. European tourist accommodated during the above mentioned period 53,033 nights in Sousse region, compared to 45,219 nights in the same period last year, 17.3% up. North American tourists spent 50,564 nights in the region compared to 36,988 nights in the same period last year, say a 36.7% rise. Nights spent by Moroccan registered 28.3% decrease. The new Japanese market was also prominent with 5,811 nights compared to 3,655 nights in the same period last year, say a 59% rise.
