Turkish association joins European Contractors Union
The Turkish Union of International Contractors (UIC) has recently been granted a full membership status in the European International Contractors Union (EIC). Following the move, EIC is scheduled to hold its next general assembly meeting in Istanbul.
UIC Head Nihat Ozdemir stated that this step was evidence of Turkey's advance toward full membership in the European Union (EU), Milliyet reported. The next step in this direction, he added, would be achieving UIC representation in EIC administrative bodies.
The UIC signed an initial cooperation agreement with the EIC in March 2000 Turkey. The Union is also a member of the Islamic Countries Contractors Federation (ICCF).
The Ankara-based UIC, founded in 1991, is a professional association consisting of 53 member firms. The Union works to keeps its members up to date on international construction and contracting tenders.
The Germany-based EIC represents the interests of the European construction industry in all questions related to international construction activity. EIC provides a forum for European contractors to meet and exchange experience about their international construction business. — (menareport.com)
