The United Arab Emirates has stressed the keenness to actively participate in supporting regional and international efforts to combat acts of piracy and armed robbery against ships.

This comes in the context of the UAE s comprehensive national strategy that has been adopted in this regard.

In a statement before the UN Security Council Debate on Maritime Piracy as a Threat to International Peace and Security, Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations expressed satisfaction of the United Arab Emirates on the decline in pirate attacks in recent years as an inevitable result of the coordinated efforts made by the international community to fight this phenomenon.

He emphasized that to fully address these attacks, it requires the implementation of a comprehensive and effective international measures including upgrading the vital and important role played by UN Security Council.

Al Jarman expressed concern on the continuation of this phenomenon until now and its negative results on the countries national economies, including the high cost of the shipping industry and insurance services, etc.
