UK remains Saudi Arabia\'s main importer
Despite the decline in the Saudi imports from the United Kingdom, which fell from 9.53 billion Saudi riyals in 1998 to SR 8.45 billion ($2.25 billion) in 1999, the UK remains the largest European exporter country to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. According to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the UK captured more than eight percent of the total European exports to Saudi Arabia in 1999, which totaled SR 35.1 billion ($9.4 billion).
The Saudi Statistics General Bureau reported that the value of the Saudi imports declined to SR 81.335 billion in the first half of 2000. This figure implies an SR 8.131 billion fall compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, which is equivalent to 4.2 percent.
The major exporter countries to Saudi Arabia were ranked as follows in terms of their exports value in the first half of 2000—the USA with SR 104,68 million export value to Saudi Arabia, Japan SR 94,07 million, Germany SR 93,94 million, the UK SR 63,44 million, France SR 52,10 million, Italy SR 22,60 million, China SR 20,92 million, Switzerland SR 19,84, South Korea SR 18,93 million and India SR 15,89 million. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
