Chevrolet Camaro wins high profile industry award
Chevrolet's legendary sports car, the Camaro, has impressed industry experts to win the Best Convenient Sports Car award from high profile Middle East media outlets Automobile Magazine and Future TV's Automobile Program. The recognition comes as part of their annual motoring awards, announced this year at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Motor Show.
As leading Middle East motoring titles, the Automobile Awards have been running for 16 years, gaining them a highly regarded reputation within the automotive industry. Selection and judging is done through a series of test drives and evaluation by the editorial team, in addition to gathering customer's feedback of the vehicles in review.
"Chevrolet Camaro excels by almost every objective and subjective measure, leading the way in design, power, handling, efficiency, comfort, convenience, safety, and most of all great value. The recognition that Camaro has received from these highly regarded motoring media outlets demonstrates GM's success in creating well designed and technologically advanced vehicles." said Susan Docherty, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at General Motors International Operations.
"Such awards prove that GM models are popular not only around the world, but in the ever important Middle East market and this is something that makes us very proud."
Chevrolet Camaro was reintroduced to the Middle East market in June 2009 after an eight-year hiatus, the popularity of the Chevrolet Camaro is demonstrated by its strong sales figures, which increased by 19% in November 2010 compared to November 2009.
During 2010, the Camaro has also won a Muscle Car comparison from Edmund's Inside Line, 2010 Automotive Best Buy Award from Consumers Digest, 2010 Automobile All-Star from Automobile magazine, Drivers' Choice Award for Best Sport Coupe from Motor Week and World Car Design of the Year at the 2010 New York International Auto Show.
The Camaro is set to go from strength to strength in 2011 with the new model featuring a V6 engine completed SAE certification testing and now officially rated at 312hp at 6500 rpm and 376Nm of torque at 5100rpm. This rating is eight horsepower higher than the 2010 model and also marks an increase in torque. The new 2011 Camaro SS is available in either six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmissions. Both are coupled with 6.2L V8 engines that deliver 400 and 426hp respectively.
Designed to compete with the best in the world, a state of the art fully independent suspension system gives the 2011 Camaro a very light and nimble feel. A sophisticated four-wheel independent suspension system delivers excellent balance with a smooth, controlled ride and sharp, responsive handling.
Segment-leading Chevrolet Camaro entered a new era when the highly-anticipated 2011 Camaro Convertible was unveiled in the Middle East at the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show earlier this month. The all-new Convertible, which will surely turn heads across the region once it arrives in spring 2011, includes an enhanced body structure and well-tailored top mechanism; a combination designed to deliver sports coupe-like driving fun and precise quality.
