Official: Brahimi to resign from Syrian envoy post
The UN Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi will resign from his post May 31 said Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.
Ban Ki Moon announced Brahimi's decision Tuesday to reporters, but emphasized that the UN would continue to work towards peace and ending the conflict in Syria.
Brahimi initially replaced Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as the special envoy after Annan resigned from the post in 2012, describing his mission as "extremely complicated and very, very difficult."
Brahimi previously expressed hints at resignation after "peace talks" between Syria's regime and opposition leaders in Switzerland earlier this year ended in stalemate.
