Celebrations at Deira City Center
Festivities were in full swing at Deira City Centre over the weekend as the shopping centre celebrated the UAE's 39th National Day with customers and staff.
To celebrate the occasion Deira City Centre distributed hundreds of UAE National Day flags to guests and free Magic Planet gift vouchers to children, as well as hosting henna painting and traditional handicraft activities, handed out free coffee and dates for customers, and showcased traditional falcon displays at the mall's centre stage.
The mall was alive throughout the National Day period from the 2nd- 4th December, with an array of activities and performances that kept customers entertained.
The line up included a kids' workshop, where customers could learn traditional Emirati games played in the Bedouin times, including learning how to make a "teli" decoration used on traditional female outfits, how to create traditional fishing nets, baskets and ropes, and about the "Borgo'o"- a traditional face cover.
The mall also entertained guests with performances that included the impressive Al Dan Wedding Zafa, a traditional wedding custom, and the Al Harbeya Performance. This old and traditional dance involves performers moving to the beat of the drums with thin sticks, while they recite poetry at a fast pace. Hundreds of shoppers were invited to take part in the traditional dance routine, while others stood back and enjoyed the show.
Fuad Al Najjar, Vice President, Deira City Centre, said "National Day is a special time for all UAE residents and we are thrilled to be able to spend this significant occasion with all our customers. The lineup of National Day entertainment on offer represents the amazing traditions of our great nation, and I am certain that all our guests enjoyed experiencing the flavour of the UAE at the mall."
Making it even easier for shoppers to visit Deira City Centre during the holiday period, the mall also offered customers free parking from the 2nd to the 5th December.
