More than 100 employees of DP World, UAE Region recently took time out to participate in a clean up event on a popular stretch of Dubai's coastline.

The DP World staff was joined by colleagues from P&O Maritime Services, EHS – Trakhees, Nakheel and Imdaad, who provided the waste collection at the end of the morning free of charge.

The event was affiliated to the annual Clean Up UAE campaign organised by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a non-governmental organisation. EEG's annual clean-up drive last year attracted some 18,000 participants across all 7 emirates.

The morning was given an educational angle when Laurence Vanneyre, Project Manager, Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG), gave a short presentation on the drastic effects that waste has on the marine environment. She also discussed a range of marine programmes which are undertaken by the group in the UAE and wider GCC, including endangered turtle rehabilitation.

Participating in the Clean Up UAE campaign was in line with DP World, UAE Region's overall strategy of giving back to the community in which it operates through a number of sustainability policies that include environment –focused initiatives.

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region said:

"Our team did a wonderful job in supporting this long standing campaign by EEG which aims to raise the public's environmental awareness. I thank all the staff who participated in this event. It was a great day out, a lot of hard work and a fantastic community outcome."
