Dubai Charity Association and Dow Host Iftar for Underpriviliged Children
The Dubai Charity Association (DCA), a Dubai-based, non-profit organization specializing in humanitarian charity work for underprivileged children in the GCC and the Arab World, and Dow Middle East hosted an Iftar for orphan children between the ages of 3-10, at Madinat Jumeirah on 1 September 2010.
Dow hosted the guests at the Murjaan Ballroom where a number of fun activities took place for children, including a magic show, face painting, coloring, balloon shaping, among other fun and games. Members of DCA and Dow employees and their children attended the event to celebrate the festive spirit of Ramadan together. At the event, Dow presented DCA with funds that were raised by Dow employees during an internal campaign called "Dow Cares". The campaign raised employee awareness of the plight of underprivileged children living in the United Arab Emirates and beyond.
"The Holy Month of Ramadan is a time for humility and charity, and we always try to ensure that our patrons can contribute and support less fortunate members of our society in a meaningful way," said Ahmed Mohammed Mesmar, Secretary of the Dubai Charity Association (DCA). "Dow has been very gracious, and they made sure this event revolved around the needs and joys of the children. This is the way it should be. We thank Dow and its employees for their support and for making this event possible during Ramadan."
"The Dow Cares program showed that the spirit of Ramadan was truly in effect at our offices. But equally important, the program's success also reflects the Human Element that Dow employees cultivate in our everyday jobs and life outside work," said Dow's Middle East President Markus Wildi. "I believe all Dow employees were enthusiastic to help make a difference in a child's life during this special time. We have all shared in the joy of giving and receiving, and I hope Dubai Charity Association's good deeds continue to be recognized and well received."

Dubai Charity Association
The idea of Dubai Charity Association started when a number of Dubai's philanthropists, led by the late Eid Bin Media, Abdullah bin Ali Al Sha'afar, Abdullah bin Ali Al Sharhan, and Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Budour made the effort to make this cause a reality. The organization was first called "Al Arwa Al Wothqa", when established in 1980.
The organization's goals at the time were limited to the care of orphans. At the time, concerns were increasing day by day. These increasing concerns made it necessary to expand the society's roles and activities to attend to emerging needs. The organization was re-declared under a new name, the "Dubai Charity Association". The organization succeeded as an association of public benefits due to its comprehensive objectives and goals.
