Dubai Culture hosts ‘art worth sharing’ creative experience at TEDxDubai 2010
The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, the Emirate's dedicated authority promoting culture, heritage and the arts, will showcase a unique artistic experience under the theme 'art worth sharing,' at TEDxDubai 2010, to be held on December 4 from 10am to 5pm at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, TEDxDubai is a programme of local self-organised events that bring together people to share a TED-like (Technology, Entertainment, Design) experience.
Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting-Director General of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: "The culture of a city is shaped and defined by its people, whose creative aspirations and expression contribute to its unique dynamics. Today, Dubai has emerged as a vibrant cultural hub with powerful creative endeavours in visual arts, music, film and performing arts, attracting global talent. This city promotes the power of ideas and facilitates their realisation, and TEDxDubai is a perfect fit to our goals to drive the city's cultural and social scene."
TEDxDubai features live and video speakers, who spark deep discussion and connection. This year, the theme is 'Reboot' – to signify the celebration and sharing of events that prompted a fresh start, as an opportunity to rethink and restart.
The event will also feature an exhibition, where powerful and creative ideas are displayed. Dubai Culture's 'art worth sharing' exhibit includes a community project where members of the public can interact with two local artists, Mai Bin Shabib and Sara Bin Thalith, who will finish an art piece using the art of paper folding depicting the skyline of Dubai. The use of paper reiterates the 'ideas worth sharing' concept of TEDxDubai. The stage for TEDxDubai also is marked by artistic brilliance featuring an installation called 'Dubai is Culture' by Patricia Millns.
Among the 15 speakers to address TEDxDubai 2010 are Mohammed Abadin, Sheena Matheiken, Nicholas Sykes, Jason Vale, Sue Gardener, Elham Qasimi, Gonan Premfors, Yassin Alsalman, Matt Hoyle, James Piecowye, Mishaal Al Gergawi and Tala Badri.
They will share their views on a range of compelling topics – with Elham Qasimi, the UAE national lady who completed a journey to the North Pole, talking on change and paradigm shifts as a result of individual action, to Sheena explaining about the Uniform Project, whereby one little black dress put 300 kids in school.
TEDxDubai is a perfect fit to Dubai Culture's outlook of nurturing local talent and ensuring local content creation. The Authority strives to increase awareness by fostering robust dialogue with the public to generate interest in the cultural sector.
