Dubai Women's College (DWC), a Higher Colleges of Technology flagship institution, held recently at DWC campus a seminar on the Accounting and Audit profession for its Year 3 and Year 4 Accounting students. The seminar was led by Fadi El Masri, Assistant Manager, Assurance and Advisory Business Services, Ernst & Young Dubai, who addressed the students and gave a brief overview of audit procedures and function.
The objective of the seminar was to provide students with a clear perspective of the discipline and to apprise them of the latest developments in the field. "UAE has now become one of the most prominent financial centers in the region. This will lead to a growing need for highly trained, qualified and technically skilled financial professionals. Institutions like Dubai Women's College can play a key role in grooming and encouraging UAE Nationals to pursue a career in the professional services industry," he pointed out.
Dr. Monica Gallant, Chair of the Business Programs at DWC said, "Dubai Women's College highly values our partnerships with the industry. It is very important for our students to be aware of current practices in the field and the need for professional accountants and auditors."
On the role of organizations like Ernst & Young in creating the requisite human talent for the financial services industry, Fadi said that working for an international organization offers a tremendous amount of learning and can be arguably considered the equivalent of a specialized post-graduate degree. "Ernst & Young's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is specifically designed to equip, train and empower such upcoming professionals," he added.
Commenting on the seminar, Hanan, a Bachelors of Accounting student, said: "It was an interesting speech and it added value to our existing knowledge on auditing."
Shaikha Felasi, another student added that the presentation was very informative and it illustrated the practical aspects of conducting an audit. "The presentation was a great opportunity which made us consider auditing as a possible career path," said Maryam Falasi.
