Syrian teen and British youth face firing squad in UAE for drug dealing

A British man and his Syrian “accomplice” are facing the death penalty by firing squad in the United Arab Emirates.
After an undercover police officer caught them selling a little less than £300 of cannabis, they were convicted in a court in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.
The two men, who have not been named, were caught selling 20 grams of marijuana with a street value of £262 to a detective posing as a customer. The Briton is 21 years old and the Syrian is 19.
The last execution that took place in the UAE was in February last year, where a man faced the firing squad after he was convicted of the rape and murder of a child.
Last night the Foreign Office was unable to confirm the details of the case or name of the man but a spokesman confirmed the sentence, according to the Daily Mail.
He said: ‘I can confirm that a British national is facing death penalty in the UAE."
The 21 year old’s mother collapsed outside the courtroom on Monday after she heard the sentence while the Syrian boy’s mother attempted to console her.
The defense lawyers believe there may be some foul play with the accusations as the police officer informed them that the Syrian asked the Briton to get the drugs from the car in Arabic.
The men now have 15 days to appeal to the Abu Dhabi’s High Court, the Court of Cassation, where the appeal will be determined by a panel of three judges.
Do you think the sentence for the men is reasonable? Tell us your thoughts below.

i think it depends on the drug dealer case, they are too young and teenager.
From islam point of you no clear punishment written in the quraan to this sin.
It's very sad but I'm sure they knew the risks when they decided to peddle their filth, it's just a shame we didn't take the same stance back home in the UK.
what an outrageous thing to say,to kill some one for this is crazy.yes i agree that the rapist and killer of a child who got the death sentance is ok, but selling a small amount of a drug that is leagle in some countrys is not just.
The sentence is far too harsh. Afer all, it is not as if they have killed someone (nor would such small quantity of cannabis). Who knows how the police officer acted under cover? It could be that he caused their act of silliness, but because of being a police officer the Court believes his side of the story. Everyone should have the opportunity to repent. This level of crime is not worthy of a jail sentence, whereas a community order or a fine is more appropriate.
There are laws and they should be upheld. They should also be recognised and understood by foreign visitors. There is no room for your namby-pamby community orders. Look at what they have done to the UK; youths almost go out of their way to wear the honour medal of ASBO. Shoot them and uphold the law.
you must of not ben loved as a child you have a attitude of pure hate its losers like you that always scream out punish them harshly but the second you make a mistake will weep like a little girl and beg for another chance
Whilst I too am certainly no left wing 'namby pamby' - I think taking it to the point of killing a man for a small amount of cannabis is obscene! It's hardly like he was even a big time dealer! Selling £300 worth of pot does not a hardened drug dealer make!
