Construction for Dubai's underwater hotel underway
Construction work on a high-profile underwater hotel project in Dubai is to begin “very shortly” and the eye-catching structure could be the first of many as its backers look to take part in the building of ‘coastal dream cities’ around the world.
Dubai Drydocks World has revealed it has held further talks with its partners in the project and has released a new image of the development, which it calls the Water Discus Hotel.
The structure is to take the shape of “a number of discs” with one up to 30m underwater and the others above the surface, “allowing guests to admire the depths of the ocean while still being able to make the best of resort living on the surface," according to Dubai Drydocks World.
The firm and its partners are eager participants in a global drive to build ‘coastal dream cities’ that “will build communities in coastal waters with zero environmental effect."
Drydocks chairman Juma Buamim met with project partners Arkadiusz Majerski, president and CEO of Deep Ocean Technology, and Bogdan Gutkowski, president of Big Invest, to discuss the development of a hotel that will, its developers promise, include “underwater vehicles that can be operated from inside [a hotel room] allowing a closer look at even the most microscopic underwater creatures”.
In a statement, Drydocks World said the hotels are “to be situated in all parts of the world."
Buamim said it was “a matter of deep pride and honour” for the firm to be part of a “world first."
The new structures could offer the “unique opportunity to live underwater on a permanent basis," Drydocks said in its statement.
