Diane Sawyer's "oops" Tuesday in which the famous news anchor misidentified Palestinians as Israelis in the aftermath of an airstrike has caused a social media storm globally, prompting Sawyer herself to issue an apology Thursday.

According to the Huffington Post, Diane Sawyer told her viewers Thursday,"We made a mistake. I misidentified these powerful images...we are truly sorry for the error."

Sawyer had talked about the conflict on her show Tuesday in which two photos were displayed of Palestinians grappling with the destruction surrounding them from Israeli airstrikes in their neighborhood. However, Sawyer introduced the powerful images as Israelis dealing with the aftermath of a Hamas rocket strike.

The mistake caused a social media storm, with many criticizing the "false balance" of coverage on the issue in the United States, according to the Huffington Post article.

In this week alone, more than 100 Palestinians have been killed from the Israeli strikes on Gaza and hundreds more have been wounded. No Israelis have been killed from Hamas' retaliatory rockets that have reached areas as far as Jerusalem.
