Some online retailers are gearing up to start selling the new iPhones and one of them has already started taking pre-orders, much before the official launch.

“We will come to know when it will be available on the Apple Store. It is most likely to be on September 21 or September 22. We will have it on our online store, either on the same day or the next day,” Sheriff Rizwan, CEO and founder of Al Shop.com, told Gulf News.

“In the first lot, we are planning to have between 100 and 200 iPhones available. We are expecting big demand for both the devices — 5S and 5C,” he said.

DubaiMart.com has already started pre-booking for the device. But the website has not mentioned when it will be available.

iPhones used to be sold in the UAE grey market for more than four times the official price a couple of years back as Apple use to take more time to launch it officially in the UAE. But the time gap has reduced to around two months now.

Most consumers are not willing to pay a premium for the grey devices but there are Apple aficionados in the Emirate.

Slimmer to its predecessor, Apple iPhone 5S will probably run on the new iOS 7 and feature a Retina+ Sharp IGZO display with a 1080p Full HD resolution.

To match up to competition, the iPhone 5S may now have multiple colour options, feature dual-SIM and a super 13MP camera. Speculations also suggest that the new phone will be NFC capable.

There are also talks of wireless charging and that the Home button will also integrate fingerprint scanning for improved security. So there’s a good chance that you can do away with passwords!

“The fingerprint scanner will be a big advantage despite the phone having the same four-inch screen. We expect 5C to be a big seller than the 5S,” Rizwan said.

But according to Karlo Alfredo, co-founder and CEO of JadoPado.com, Apple has not officially announced when the product will be available to the public.

“We can only comment when we have our hands on the device, so we cannot say when the products will be available,” Alfredo said.

Daniel Gleeson, mobile analyst at IHS Electronics & Media, said that the iPhone will still be competitive even with the same screen size, but the competition is getting a lot stronger than it was even last year and not just Samsung. LG and Sony’s latest flagship models are both excellent handsets too with large vibrant displays and a host of hardware innovations.

“Apple’s key selling point however has always been the user experience, not the technology underlying it. How iOS 7 is received will ultimately determine how well Apple fares against the competition at the high end of the market,” he said.

Despite talk of the iPhone not being able to compete with the larger screen sizes offered by Android smartphones, he said that iPhone sales have continued to increase since the iPhone 5 was introduced last September. iPhone sales may not be growing as quickly as a couple years ago, but there are multiple factors causing that; the higher end of the market is saturating and of course the law of large numbers dictates that the more Apple ship the more difficult it is to sustain high growth percentages.
