AMERICAN IN ARABIA: says MDNA don't preach peace!
Not surprisingly, one reviewer said there was a “continuous contradiction of Madonna’s MDNA tour kick-off.” She was gyrating with guns and shooting people, flashing pictures of political figures up on the screen and featuring dancers with religious symbols painted on their bare chests. Weak.
Did she think what was causing all the upheaval Israel and Palestine could be solved by some up-heaving and pelvic thrusts? Anyone who chose to see the Material Girl sweating to the oldies probably already crossed the , ‘(we) want peace in the world’ bridge.
It is highly unlikely there was a, "You know, Madonna is right” moment for the peace doubters who were present. “Seeing her in that cheerleader-cum-marching-girl troop (majorette) outfit really makes me want to stop tearing down olive groves and expanding illegal settlements!”
As an American wanting to be an agent of change in the Middle East, I commend Madonna’s desire to make money, er I mean, entertain with a purpose. But don’t make the Israeli/Palestinian conflict something trendy or dare I say, vogue.
This conflict is older than Moses, seriously and our best offering as outsiders is to listen and learn.
I’m not saying it is wrong to want peace in Palestine but either make concrete steps towards it or just have a concert minus the verbiage. Madonna don’t preach, just approach this situation as a learner, like a virgin.
