Barbadian mega-celebrity Rihanna has been doing her rounds of the Middle East, performing in the UAE and in Israel.
Alongside putting on all her latest hits, Ri Ri has also been causing controversy on her regional tour -- starting with posing in the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi in a hijab, and ending with promoting Palestinian statehood whilst on stage in Tel Aviv.
After leaving her 50,000-strong Tel Aviv audience waiting for two and a half hours before she came on stage, Rihanna took the concert by storm wearing a black spiked headband and a delicate black jacket -- any illusions of modesty were quickly abandoned after she whipped off the outfit to reveal a black halterneck, bare midrift and a teeny weeny mini skirt, according to Haaretz.
“Thank you Tel Aviv!” she said. “You know I love my friends all over the world, but it’s been too long since I’ve been back here in Tel Aviv,” Haaretz reported.
Despite this outpouring of love, it seems Rihanna's heart is in one place - Palestine.
When performing her single "Pour it Up", Rihanna substituted some pro-Palestinian lyrics in place of her originals.
Instead of “All I see is signs / All I see is dollar signs,” she subbed in “All I see is Palestine,” and kept on shouting out “Tel Aviv!” in every song – but never once said the word Israel, Haaretz reported - clearly in a grump with Ri Ri over her pro-Pal musical protest.
So it seems that Rihanna has been doing some research whilst on tour - not just blithely promoting Israel without knowing about regional sensitivites. Ri Ri, we salute you!
Before we go giving too much credit to Rihanna, it's worth noting that in her Instagram pictures from her trip to the Holy Land, she's been hashtagging #Israel left, right and centre. Either she's playing a clever game or she's got some intern on the job who isn't up to date with her political leanings!
What do you think of Rihanna's regional antics? Was her "All I see is Palestine" a clever political trick or just a Zionist slip?
