Sufism 'n' Roll
Imam Ahmet Mushin Tuzer has a calling: to merge the purity of Islam with the pounding rhythms of rock.
The Muslim cleric, who works in the city of Antalya in South Western Turkey and used to be Prayer Caller at Istanbul's Sultan mosque , started up his rock band in May along with two friends, reported CNN Turkey.
"Rock music is universal", Mr Tuzer told the news organisation, before going on to explain the genre provided the opportunity to reach a wider audience through music.
Sufi music is highly devotional, with its lyrics inspired by the works of Sufi poets, such as Rumi, Hafiz, Bulleh Shah and Khwaja Ghulam Farid.
Mr Tuzer has received many awards in Quran recital competitions, and is expected to produce a 10-piece album of his work, with two of the songs devoted to enitrely Sufi pieces. The album will be entitled " T'al Ila Al Mawla" or " Come to The Protector".
