Cheers, cheers, Palestine! Ready for Taybeh Oktoberfest
Taybeh Municipality and all local civic organizations in conjunction with the Taybeh Brewing Company, Nadim Khoury, master brewer will host the Taybeh Oktoberfest, 8th annual village festival, Sat & Sun, Oct 6 & 7, 2012 in Taybeh, Palestine, 11 am to 10pm with the opening celebration on Sat, 11am at Taybeh Municipality under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Khaled Fahed Alqawasmi, Minister of Local Government.
Promoting support for local products with cultural exchange and heritage, the Oktoberfest will open with members from the Musikkapelle Leobendorf from Bavaria and the Trio Dona Zefa from Brazil; THE SUN, a band from Italy and the local Taybeh Folklore Group. www.taybehmunicipality.org Taybeh Oktoberfest, reflecting democracy and modernism has become one of the most distinctive festivals inspiring international travel and is the cooperative work of the Taybeh Municipality and its mayor David Canaan Khoury since 2005. Entertainment will include a diversity of return favorites like Toot Ard -Reggae from the Golan Heights; DAM Palestinian Hip Hop; Alrowwad Cultural & Theater Society; Palestinian Circus School; Ramallah Orthodox Club Folklore Group and new bands -Al Raseef from Ramallah, Qalandia Blues from Jerusalem and X Games from Qalqilia. Street hockey games Saturday afternoon will complement the Taybeh Beer competition and Taybeh Walk organized by Walking Palestine. Hand crafted jewelry along with other exhibitions hosted by Holylanders at Peter's Place in the Old City. A new spot to tour this year is the grotto and special chapel at the Nasr Priestly Home (original 1568). "From West to East: A Taybeh Art Exhibition" features distinctive local artists Nabeel Hanna Muaddi and Issa Zawahreh.
The French-German Mobile Library for Children together with Tamer Institute will offer storytelling, face painting and other children's activities. Al Harah Theater/Beit Jalla will perform "Yallah Farah" and have puppet characters at the opening parade with the Taybeh Scouts. Taybeh expresses appreciation to all sponsors and over 16 in-kind supporters: Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem; Representative of Brazil; Rep Office of Germany; Rep Office of Canada; Pontifical Mission Jerusalem; Caritas Jerusalem; Hanns Seidel Stiftung ; Mazen Qupty; Nawas International; Shepherds Tours.
The mayor states: "I personally invite you to celebrate the eight annual Taybeh Oktoberfest during this last year of my service as mayor where private sector and municipality had a unique collaboration in boosting the economy, inspiring tourism and cultural exchange by offering an alternative picture of Palestine." Dr. Maria C. Khoury is the author of Christina Goes to the Holy Land and the promoter of Taybeh Oktoberfest, scheduled for October 6–7.
