Absolutely disgusting! Poor girl - may she rest in peace! And may her 'husband' get all that's coming to him! What an awful so called culture!

Karen Flynn (not verified) Wed, 09/25/2013 - 10:28

This has nothing to do with religion. Its all culture based and horrifically sad.If people in North America with educated backgrounds can raise more awareness in the world today things like this would be banned. LETS RAISE AWARENESS ANYWAY WE POSSIBLY CAN PEOPLE. Everyone needs to wake up, these are children of the future.

"In February 2009, a law was created in Yemen that set the minimum age for marriage at 17. Unfortunately, it was repealed after more conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic."

It's being made out by some WITHIN that it is indeed "part of Islam"...

Anonymous (not verified) Wed, 04/02/2014 - 23:11

Please understand that this horrific incidents are not part of the Islamic faith, but rather a horrible CULTURE existing in parts of Yemen, and several middle eastern countries. Poor treatment of women exists in some other places such as Pakistan as well. If it is a Islam thing, a billion Muslims around the world from China to Turkey to US would do the same. Islam sees marriage as a sacred act. Muslims around the world detest this act, and agree she is too young to be married off. I dont think she even reached puberty stage. That man should be castrated alive.

Great to be in an Islamist country where you can kill babies for sexual pleasure

caledongirl (not verified) Wed, 09/18/2013 - 13:14

This is disgusting. These people act like animals! I feel so sorry for this girl, and the other 140 million who deal with this hedonistic, poor excuses for men.
What can we do to help?
We must call attention to this problem!
The United States must be able to do something.

John Smarr (not verified) Mon, 09/16/2013 - 05:42

This is densely barbaric and inhumane. The thought of a law put in place to protect these young girls from trauma was repealed because more conservative (sicko) lawmakers call it "un-Islamic" gives me no hope for a better future...
How can it ever be plausible to reverse the opinions of these people if they their claim 'In the name of religion' seems to justify these cruel acts?

Where is the hope - if it's not in their faith? (not verified) Mon, 09/16/2013 - 05:41

bunch of pedophiles

This is a big stigma to Islamic religion and Arabic culture. They need to raise up to the standards of contemporary guidelines, or they will be left in stone ages. Disgusting .

dr osman (not verified) Sun, 09/15/2013 - 11:31

What is to be expected, a backward people and a barbaric r*******? never a good combination, then again no religion is good for women. Come to think of it no religion is good for humanity either.

As a woman,I would kill this "MOTHER FUC*** ". This is a VIOLATION of all HUMAN RIGHTS and all CHILDREN`S RIGHTS ! Just imagine your little son or your little daughter to be sexualy abused and beaten to death. LUCKILY in Europe I can see my daughter play with her toys or play in the garden and being SAFE ! This ISLAM RELIGION - this MEN RELIGION should be BOMBED AND STOPPED ! What do we pay our soldiers every month for if not to BRING this kind of INSANE PEOPLE(MEN) DOWN !!!!!! I am so angry now and so sad at the same, because I know how it is to be sexualy abused as a child. It is NOT TRUE that the world does not have anough MONEY. There is MORE MONEY that we all need. There SHOULD BE anough MONEY for everyone to live a peacefull life and that this kind of things would not happen.

Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 09/14/2013 - 21:16

how can Islam, the religion of mercy, thinking, logic and brain, be taken like that?!!
God, dear people, would never allow such a thing! Just THINK!
Children must be not only not forced to get married, but also not to allowed to get married at such age!!

Sandy from Yemen (not verified) Sat, 09/14/2013 - 18:30

Why isn't the U.N. show concern for these children?

Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 09/14/2013 - 14:55

The UN doesn't care because they can't hang it on the Israelis!

Anonymous (not verified) Sun, 06/01/2014 - 02:29

Somehow this story seems like agitprop to me. I would not be repeating it if I can't actually verify it. This is the type of story (especially if untrue) that has been used time and time again as the excuse for destroying persons and defenseless countries.

Be skeptical.

Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 09/14/2013 - 12:34

Civilized world? yes, it is good idea. I have not come across that world yet.
What is happening in the of Islam, has nothing to do with Islam, yes people use religion, freedom, liberation, democracy and rest to justify their immoral acts, rape, oppression, wars, murder etc.

I hope her parents will be tormented until they die! As if there is anyone to be blamed they should be first!!!

How can men such as this justify their actions? Under what circumstances would you reason with yourself that it is ok for you to have a child bride. Whether the parents of the bride owe you some payment or are in your debt, you as an adult should understand boundaries and know that taking their child as your bride would forever damage her future and rob her of her childhood. Maybe it's because you don't give a shit about anyone but yourself!! The parents who sell their children, whether you are down on your luck, there is no reason within this universe that you should put your child through such pain. An 8 yr old, are you f**** insane?!!! She was a child!!! What does she know of the world and bearing the responsibilities only an adult would understand?!! What does she know of the terrible things the world holds?!! How can you let your child bear the burden of solving family issues?!! Never in a million years, no matter what someone was willing to pay me, or under threat of death would I ever do this to my child!!!

I'm personally not religious and have no prejudices against different religions, cultures, or peoples. But under the circumstances that we live in today, one can only see a flaw in the types of cultures that perpetuate these atrocious crimes. Cultures where women and girls have to bear the burden of keeping the family whole, birthing/rearing many children with very little money, sometimes take undesirable jobs to keep food on the table, and are subject to the physical and emotional abuse of their husbands/male relatives, lead to an understanding that all women and girls are worthless, interchangeable, and meant for ridicule and abuse. A cycle perpetuates where all women and girls are forever kept in the dark about their human rights. But I wish there was some way to help these women and girls who have no voice in what happens to them on a daily basis. Yet, it's not as if you could just invade another freely independent country with the intent of preventing these unfortunate things from happening or create a system that stems these types of marriages. But there must be a way!!!

There are just too many sick, filthy bastards freely roaming the world causing grief and pain. If there was a way to pinpoint these crazy pedophiles, I would line them up and neuter the fuck out of them all!!!! They need to be punished for taking innocent lives and destroying them forever!!!

Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 09/14/2013 - 03:59

I wonder how her parents are slipping into denial at the role that they played in setting up their baby to be tortured in this manner. I wonder how the parents...particularly her mother.... are finding justification for being accomplices to murder.

'In February 2009, a law was created in Yemen that set the minimum age for marriage at 17. Unfortunately, it was repealed after more conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic.'

That's utterly ridiculous!!!! It's NOT un-Islamic. I understand that it may have been in your culture/traditions for this to occur, but honestly it's CHILD ABUSE AND RAPE! The 'men' (although, not being sexist- could be women too!) who were against this law, are obviously nuts. Now, maybe the parents couldn't provide for the child, and thought marrying her off or something would 'make all their problems go away, and the little girl (which is what she was) would live 'happily ever after'.' That's not how it works, and there needs to be changes to make sure this stops!!

Anonymous (not verified) Sat, 09/14/2013 - 00:02

This is disgusting! I'm embarrassed to live in a world that allows something so horrendous.

Tammy C (not verified) Fri, 09/13/2013 - 23:41

Why is everyone putting down the Islamic faith!?!? That makes us no better than them. Just because they're wrong for forcing a young girl into marriage and then sexually torturing her doesn't make us saying Muslims are bad correct. Grow up, guys.
