"In February 2009, a law was created in Yemen that set the minimum age for marriage at 17. Unfortunately, it was repealed after more conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic."

So are they saying that it is un-islamic to outlaw the forced physical and sexual subjugation and exploitation of minors?

Normal??? And Muslims wonder why they are viewed with disdain! Muslim men have no morals, no integrity, no compassion and are fueled with hatred for women of ANY culture. The fact that Muslims believe that God verbally revealed the Quran to Muhammad is a travesty! God would NEVER, EVER condone the abuse, sexual exploitation and murder of children and women.

this is normal for muslims. the koran says so.

How can rape under the guise of marriage be sanctioned anywhere, how can males be raised to be pedophiles , to ignore their own souls, which are screaming at the wrongness of their own deeds! How fearful they are of being compared, ridiculed by a women who is allowed to choose, to speak her mind, tragic sad, sick and cowardly

Mohammed is a perfect example of a good Muslim, so they followed how the way he lived. According to the 2nd Holliest Book of Islam, "The Haddith" Prophet Mohammed married her 2nd wife Aisha when she was 6 years old and had sex with her when she was 9 years old.... So what do we expect now to the Muslim World?

1. Hadith of Sahih Al-Bukhari:

Narrated Aisha: "The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj.... There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age." Sahih Bukhari 5:58:234

2. Hadith of Sahih Muslim:

"A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) married her when she was six years old, and he was taken to his house as a bride when she was nine, and her dolls were with her; and when he (the Holy Prophet) died she was eighteen years old." Sahih Muslim 8:3311

3. Hadith of Abu Dawud:

"Aisha said, "The Apostle of Allah married me when I was seven years old." (The narrator Sulaiman said: "Or six years."). "He had intercourse with me when I was 9 years old." Abu-Dawud 2:2116

4. Hadith of Al Tabari:

Narrated Aisha: "The Prophet consummated his marriage with me in my house when I was nine years old. Neither a camel nor a sheep was slaughtered on behalf of me.”
Al-Tabari, Vol. 9, p. 131

We Americans are taught by our liberal media to not pass judgment on other people's cultures and their internal affairs. So I will not.

This is not a demonstration of 'love'. This is cruelty to the skin. How can anyone in the right mind be so selfish? Who gave them the right to abuse little children? I pray that justice will be done, and the law will revert to protect legal marriage at 18yrs of age. No question !! This is not about religion .. this is about protecting your own. And if Islam is not complying .. then maybe the Muslims need to rethink who they are worshipping.

yes we all vent anger and frustration no doubt, that's ok.But we must realise that we still cannot stop this practice. In order to save the lives of future victims,we should educate the men on how to do it.If that Yemeni child husband had rubbed his limp penis(I don't know if it's the same with uncircumcised men)up and down the little girls vagina,he would have ejaculated within 15-20 seconds.Wipe her clean with tissue or clean cloth she wears back her panties and runs along to play, she would certainly have been alife today, safe, healthy, all forgotten.Nature permits this than Obama's man marry man legality.I am talking from experience,I am not a hypocrite.Child sex,if done well is even safer and sweeter than adult sex.No injury,no pregnancy, nothing. The Yemeni bride was not ready for penetration and her husband must be arrested for murder. He is a mad man.How can he seek to enter a child sexually, instead of standing up the moment he notices that he has become erect.

Even gentle fondling can cause trauma in a large percentage of children when they grow up (psychological trauma). Granted some do not experience this, but a lot do. A child cannot really say no because a) they don't really understand the decision from a developmental standpoint. Their brain is still developing in vast ways. b) adults are in a position of authority over them so the option of saying no does not always feel like a choice.
Therefore, the experience, even if the child "agrees" at the time, is actually not better than rape. It is considered sexual abuse in many countries because of this. The "injury" comes to many children who experience this psychologically if not physically.

For these damn parents, what the hell are you thinking about? If you don't want her, send her to me and I will adopt her with the best care. Fucking idiot! You're 40 and you should go to hell.

Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 09/10/2013 - 07:58

This child's undoubtedly painful experience that ended in her death is pedophilic and inhuman. Children are not ready to be sexual partners nor marriage partners. They are CHILDREN! They must be educated and nurtured, not married and used as a sex toy!

Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 09/10/2013 - 07:31

HANG THE SOB FROM HIS DAMN BALLS

Anonymous (not verified) Tue, 09/10/2013 - 07:22

How terribly horrendous! How can ignorance or cultural beliefs lead to such atrocity!

jenny (not verified) Tue, 09/10/2013 - 07:14

This is very sad and I can imagine why this issue continues.. I myself have been to Yemen. Probably in the main capital city Sana'a, where society and people are a little more aware of the consequences of underage marriage law. Pretty much most of the family i know there prohibited such marriage. At least, the girl has to be 15 or 16 (at least). In places where tribals and outskirt areas (far from the city or town, away from any society) from my experience, living in such areas somehow you are lost in time. Even a radio cassette player is something new,. eating, living in tents and clay huts is common. The people, are not aware of anything going on outside the world. The children and their mothers, are as young as they can be. I met one mother who has be-children 6 kids and she is only 15. She got married at the age of 9. It is sad but that is how they live. Not knowing how to read, write, or even know what is outside her house. She has never been to the shops or socialize with other kids accept for her children. The close minded husband who only chew Qat and THE ONLY one who will go and buy household food and items. Believe it or not YES I have experience living with them and it is not easy for a foreigner (even i am a muslim women) and I am prohibited to show my face to any of male presence. My point is, YES it is a cruel world,. YES the tribes/people are still living as if it is ancient time. YES the girls does not get any education and any other entertainment accept to help her mother to cook and clean and be the slave to the man. Learning to be a future wife for the future husband (close family, cousins, uncles) and all of this will continue repeating till the end of their generation. Young mothers are clueless about the world outside and never even seen another man accept for her close family. As a visitor, and understand their language, i find it hard to accept these things as they themselves are scared to speak out and do anything that might upset their husband. All of this are true and I have seen it by my own eyes. No awareness, no education, no health care (accept for an old lady who knows a bit here and there), no telephone (only the husband/male can use a phone) nothing! to us yes this is cruelty, abusive, horror! but because they have been living in the circle where stones and sands are their friends, don't expect them to understand and live like a normal modern society. It is sad and true.
