Emirates NBD hosts Charity Putt at Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2010 to support Dubai Cares
Emirates NBD, the leading bank in the region, hosted a Charity Putt at the recently held Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2010, to raise AED10,000 for the local philanthropic organisation, Dubai Cares. This is in line with Emirates NBD's commitment to support social and charitable causes, while at the same time encouraging sporting activities in the Emirate.
"As a neighbourhood bank committed to meeting the needs of the local community, Emirates NBD aims to support all deserving social causes, especially Dubai Cares, which helps provide quality primary education to children in developing countries," said Rick Pudner, Group CEO, Emirates NBD, who presented the cheque to Ms Yasemin Saib, a representative of Dubai Cares. "We are pleased that this has coincided with the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2010, giving us an opportunity to reiterate our commitment to sports in the UAE."
"The Dubai Ladies' Masters is a prestigious annual event on the Ladies' European Tour and we are grateful to Emirates NBD Bank for choosing Dubai Cares as its charity partner for the event. This gesture by the country's leading bank is evidence of the growing emphasis that is being laid on corporate social responsibility in the UAE. Such support will help us reach out to many more children in developing countries that have limited or no access to primary education and help achieve the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum of providing primary-age children globally with quality education," said Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Cares.
Emirates NBD also served as the Official Bank and Caddie bib sponsor for the tournament, which was held at the Emirates Golf Club from Dec 6 – 11, 2010 as part of its continuing partnership with the Omega Dubai Ladies Master and Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Background Information
Emirates NBD
Emirates NBD, the leading banking group in the region, was formed on 19 June 1963, when H.H. Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum signed the Charter of Incorporation of the National Bank of Dubai (NBD) which became the first National Bank established in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With the blessings of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, NBD merged with Emirates Bank International (EBI) on 06 March 2007, to form Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the region by assets. On 16 October 2007, the shares of Emirates NBD were officially listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM). The merger between EBI and NBD to create Emirates NBD, became a regional consolidation blueprint for the banking and finance sector as it combined the second and fourth largest banks in the UAE to form a banking champion capable of delivering enhanced value across corporate, retail, private, Islamic and investment banking throughout the region.
