Saudi Arabia’s annual garbage production has reached 12 million tons, with each citizen producing an average of 1.4 kilograms of waste per day. The Kingdom’s rapid industrialization and urbanization as well as numerous construction works have pushed pollution and waste to alarming levels, thus intensifying the need for more effective and advanced recycling and waste management solutions.
The Saudi Government has in fact been investing heavily in various waste management strategies. In 2008, it allocated SAR17 billion for municipal services, including water drainage and waste disposal, and SAR28.5 billion for water, agriculture and infrastructure, a large amount of which was spent on sanitation services.
Government officials will join investors, suppliers and other stakeholders in exploring the latest recycling and waste management techniques, technologies and equipment during Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia 2009 - The 2nd International Recycling and Waste Management Exhibition in Saudi Arabia running from 13 to 16 Zul Al-Qi`dah, 1430 H / November 1 to 4, 2009 at the newly-completed Riyadh International Exhibition Center.
Khalid Daou, Project Manager of Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia at Riyadh Exhibitions Company, said: “Waste comes in various forms, from different sectors of the economy, and with unique effects on human wellbeing and the environment. Different waste scenarios require different solutions, which is why government and other concerned parties need to be aware of the various approaches available for waste control. Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia 2009 will offer a comprehensive lineup of solutions for what has emerged as the largest recycling and waste management market in the region.”
Organised by Riyadh Exhibitions Company, the leading events organiser in the Middle East, Recycling and Waste Management Saudi Arabia 2009 will gather industry professionals, senior government and municipal officials and decision-makers to meet with exhibitors to discuss and evaluate current and evolving technology, equipment, and products. The diverse exhibition profile includes odor control, recycling containers, compost turners, waste management computer software, compactors, dumpers, fleet maintenance and washing equipment, trammels, and conveyors, among others.
The show is also intended to raise public awareness on the protection of the environment as a social responsibility rather than a set of rules and regulations. The Saudi Government has been carrying on campaigns to emphasise that the success of environmental protection relies heavily on the active and widespread participation of society.
