Qatar inaugurates new LNG production line
Posted: 27-10-2009 , 14:38 GMT

LNGQatar on Tuesday formally inaugurated a new LNG production line in Ras Laffan Industrial City. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, attended the inauguration of RasGas 3 Train 6, the sixth liquefaction train for RasGas, a joint venture of Qatar Petroleum and Exxon Mobil Corp.

“This project is a symbol that expresses the friendship between our two countries and peoples and an example for technical and economic co-operation in the field of energy between Corps and companies,” the Emir said in an address. “It is the first of its kind in the world, it represents a qualitative leap in the manufacturing of LNG terminals, in terms of adherence to strict operational safety requirements and preserving the environment.”

“After nearly two decades of persistent efforts and hard work to develop our massive natural gas reserves, Qatar has become a leading country in the gas industry and the leading LNG exporter and transporter worldwide” he added.

Among the largest in the world, the new line’s inauguration boosts RasGas’ production capacity to 28.5 million tons of LNG annually. It is part of a full value chain investment that includes natural gas production and liquefaction facilities in Qatar.

Qatar is the world’s largest exporter of LNG and anticipates boosting LNG exports to 77 million tons by the end of 2010.
