Posted: 28-09-2009 , 05:56 GMT

With the recent acquisition of the 42,000 square metres warehouse in Jafza’s south zone, the premier shipping company’s facilities within the free zone have reached over 160,000 square metres, which also include 107,000 square metres of Logistics Park and 8,000 sq.m of space for its Headquarters. GAC’s facility in Jafza is one of the group’s largest worldwide and its logistics centre there is the region’s biggest. The Swedish company achieved growth by over four times over the past eight years through its operations in Jafza, which currently account for more than 20 per cent of its global revenue.

The relocation of its headquarters to Jafza in 2001 was based on the conviction that the right location and a forward thinking professional environment create winners in the logistics business. “Our location facilitated us to deliver our promises on the dot. The growth and successes achieved ever since fully validate our vision,” Lars Safverstrom, Group President and Chief Executive, said.

Innovation has been a key element in GAC’s growth. The group introduced major new technological initiatives in ship-to-ship transfers, ship supply Services, LCL container consolidation services and sea/air freight combinations from Asia to Europe. They also developed a fleet of support vessels to provide extensive Marine services to the offshore industry, including construction and production phases.

Focusing on “Delivery As Promised” in terms of value for money, quality, continuity and global reach, GAC has grown over the past decade to become the world’s largest independent ship agency group and the only organisation to offer integrated shipping, logistics and marine services expertise. With 300 offices covering over 1,000 locations around the world, the US$ 400 million group employs more than 8,000 professionals globally and is a leading contributor to the Dubai economy in the logistics sector.
