AlgeriaAn Algerian sheep farmer had his throat slit and three of his children died in a bomb attack near the border with Tunisia, a hospital director said Monday. According to the AP, a total of five people were killed in the attack over the weekend in Houidjbet, said Amina Araar of the Bir El Ater hospital.

The attack was also reported in the daily newspapers El Watan, Liberte and El Khabar.

Militants killed 300 sheep before killing the farmer who owned them, the news reports said. The farmer's children and neighbors went to the municipal administrative center to report the attack, and on their way back were hit by a remote-controlled bomb, the reports said.

Three of the farmer's children and a local official were killed in the blast, the hospital director said.

In another attack Saturday night, a local police officer was killed and two colleagues seriously wounded in an attack near Beni Ouguig, about 300 kilometers east of Algiers, Liberte reported.
