Ministry of works graduate engineer training program complete
Bahrain Bay Development B.S.C.(c) congratulated its Graduate Engineer students today by presenting them each with a certificate for completing their 12 month training programme. The program has been implemented under the guidance of His Excellency Fahmi Bin Ali Al Jowder, Minister of Works; as a way of local industry furthering the education and professional development of specialist technical graduates. The first graduates to undertake the programme, Bahrainis Ebtisam Saleh Ahmed and Muna A. Latif Abdulla, both trainee engineers from the Ministry of Works have spent the past 12 months, working as members of the technical consultant teams within the $2.5 billion Bahrain Bay mixed use development in Manama. The objective of the training has been to help the graduates develop a broad range of business, technical and personal skills that will provide the foundation for further professional qualifications in pursuit of their engineering careers.
The comprehensive programme which has been developed by Bahrain Bay has been based around placement rotations, allowing the graduates to gain a wealth of experience in different areas, as well as on exciting and real life projects where they will be able to see the difference they have made through their contributions. Throughout the programme the graduates were closely monitored, with monthly assessments conducted by placement managers to track development and objectives achievement. During their 12 months, Ebtisam and Muna have worked with some of the industry leaders including Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), the New York based Master Planner and architectural designer for Bahrain Bay; Atkins, the project consultant engineers; Mace Project Management; Dalkia, the global energy company as-well as a number of local consultants.
Bob Vincent, CEO of Bahrain Bay, said, “Bahrain Bay Development has been particularly pleased with the initiative from His Excellency Fahmi Bin Ali Al Jowder, Minister of Works and the positive attitude of the graduates in accepting the challenge of stepping into the workplace. It has been a rewarding experience all round in so far as Bahrain Bay learning about how we need to continually assess our communication, career development and feedback within the project. We see our Graduate Engineer Programme as part of Bahrain Bay’s investment into its community. By taking on graduates each year and mentoring them through an intensive rotation programme, we aim to develop what they’ve learnt in the class room and apply their knowledge to practical implementation. We fully expect our graduates to contribute to the success of Bahrain Bay and through this process we hope that they have not only gained technical skills but also developed personally so they can contribute to Bahrain’s bright future.”
Ebtisam and Muna added “The year we have spent with Bahrain Bay was such a wonderful experience. We really enjoyed our time working with the project team and gained a great amount of knowledge. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop our technical and personal skills and without a doubt improved our professional qualities in pursuit of our careers in engineering. We would like to thank all the staff at Bahrain Bay for all the support, guidance and help they have provided us over the past year.’’
The programme is open to all Bahraini nationals aged between 21 and 35 and will be offered to three to five civil engineering graduates each year who meet the programme requirements.
