crédit agricole egypt launches the american university in cairo affinity card in partnership with visa

Crédit Agricole Egypt (CAE) recently launched a new line of Visa payment cards in Egypt that will support the American University in Cairo (AUC) to continue its mission of offering the best educational opportunities to students from all segments of Egyptian society. AUC Affinity Cards enable cardholders to donate a small percentage of every purchase made with their card to the university at no additional expense to the card user.

“Crédit Agricole Egypt constantly strives to create new and attractive products for customers and we are delighted to launch the AUC Affinity Card. It is not only an innovative payment tool offering ease, and convenience, but it also provides a valuable economic and social contribution, ” remarked Jean Francois Benazet, Head of Retail for Credit Agricole Egypt. “We are very pleased to have teamed up with Visa and the AUC to offer this quality product.”

The AUC Affinity Card product line includes a credit card, in two different designs; an Electron card for CAE account holders; and a prepaid card, to be issued to AUC students. The cards are a private label full-fledged credit card, branded with all the participant logos, the AUC, Crédit Agricole Egypt and Visa. The card is available to AUC alumni, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees and “Friends” who have Egyptian citizenship or are resident foreigners, are at least 21-years-old and have a minimum net monthly income of EGP 1,000.

“By working with Crédit Agricole Egypt we are pleased to be able to support one of the most reputable universities in Egypt. The AUC has been providing quality education in Egypt for many years. Now cardholders can support its educational mission and key role in society by simply using their cards,”  said Tarek Elhousseiny, Vice President and General Manager of Visa Egypt and North and West Africa, “Visa is constantly working to support financial institutions and partners like AUC in each marketplace to provide payment solutions that promote wide acceptance, ease, flexibility and convenience. The AUC Affinity Card is a great way to pay and provides cardholders with the chance to actively contribute to a noteworthy cause. It is also an acknowledged introduction of electronic payments to students, an upcoming and influential segment of our society.”

This is a great idea; however, the application process is cumbersome and extremely inefficient. Calls to the branch are not returned, applications are cancelled due to data entry error with no follow up with the customer and bank employees do not follow up or provide potential customers with the correct information. More hassle than its worth!
