The National Council for human rights in Egypt awarded the television drama series “Sarkhat Untha” (Female Cry) the first prize for best drama series produced between 2007 and 2008. 
The council, headed by Dr. Botros Ghali, hosted a celebration for the occasion in Cairo. The judging committee, which includes 20 critics and artists, were present at the celebration. There were over 50 series judged by the committee.
The series also received the award for best writer, best director and best actor and actress.
The writer of “Sarkhat Untha,” Muhammad Al Ghiti, said that he was thrilled with the awards.
“Sarkhat Untha” discusses the pollution of the environment and how it affects the sex hormones of an infant. The leading star of the drama series was born carrying the characteristics of both sexes. She was raised in her early life as a male and after adolescence she decided to live her life as a female, despite her family’s refusal.
The drama series is directed by Raid Labib and stars Egyptian actress Dalia Al Bihairi, Egyptian actor Tareq Lutfi and Jordanian actor Eyad Nasar.
The series was produced by Egyptian television.
