Iran Tuesday confirmed the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and declared an official end to the election quarrel.  Iran’s top legislative body, the Guardian Council, announced it had completed a partial recount Monday—counting ten percent of nearly forty million ballots—that refuted calls of election irregularities by presidential rival Mir Hossein Mousavi and his supporters. The opposition, however, has long accused the Guarding Council of favoring Ahmadinejad.

“From today on, the file on the presidential election has been closed,” Guardian Council spokesman Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei said on state-run Press TV.

Ayatollah Ahmed Jannati, who heads the Guardian Council, said that “meticulous and comprehensive examination” found only “slight irregularities that are common to any election and needless of attention,” according to the state TV channel IRIB.
