Iraq: Bid to boost potato farming
Posted: 01-03-2005 , 12:50 GMT

The Iraqi ministry of agriculture announced that new investments are expected by land owners in order to boost potato farming. A source at the ministry revealed that contracts were already agreed with the general company for gardening and foresting. Based on these contracts, the company will provide to the farmers seeds, fertilizers and pesticide.

The source added, according to Alkadhum newspaper, that this plan is part of the ministry efforts to encourage the planting of potatoes across Iraq. The ministry has provided bulbs (seeds) of many kinds of potatoes and large quantities of fertilizers for farmers to encourage them to plant potatoes.
