FAO plans to start implementing a project of land reclamation for Iraqi lands, which suffer from desertification in Baghdad and other provinces.
An authorized source at the at the Iraqi ministry of agriculture has told Alfourat newspaper that the ministries of planning, agriculture and labor have already discussed this project with FAO officials.
This projects is expected to employ many Iraqis who will work in preparing nurseries for different types of plants. The source revealed that FAO gave its commitment to train and support owners of the nurseries so that they can develop this type of project.

there is an afforestation projects in india called Attappady wasteland comprehensive enviomental conservation project funded by Japanese Govt on envionmental conservation of which most of the component of the project being implemented in the tribal belt in Kerala state of India would suit for the proposed FAO iraqi project.you may log on to www.ahads.org
i am also heading the project as deputy project director of agriculture and soil conservation division whichhave all those componets like nursery production, compost production, bio fertiliser production, afforesation and so on. it wqould be a model that can be adopted with necessary modification to suit the middle east condion
