More than 20 die in Iraq, including US soldier

US soldiers in IraqAn American soldier died Saturday when a roadside bomb hit his convoy near Baghdad, the military said.  The attack occurred southwest of the capital at about 4 p.m., the military said. 

 

Elsewhere, at least six security officers and a civilian were killed across Iraq. Two police officers died when a roadside bomb hit a convoy carrying the police chief of Baiji, police said, according to AFP. Five policemen were also injured in the attack.

 

In another incident, two people, including a policeman, died in an execution-style when gunmen grabbed them in Zurf al-Sakhar, a village some 65 kilometers south of Baghdad.

 

Two Iraqi army soldiers died and six others wounded when gunmen opened fire on their convoy in Suwera, southeast of Baghdad, an interior ministry official said. A police commando was also killed in another attack.

 

A total of 17 bullet-riddled bodies were discovered on Saturday, with five of those found in the Tigris river in Suwera and 12 more in Baghdad, Iraqi police said.
