Pope comments on Islam: Al Qaeda in Iraq vows to conquer Rome
Posted: 18-09-2006 , 11:56 GMT

popeAl Qaeda in Iraq vowed war on "worshippers of the cross" and protesters burned a papal effigy on Monday over Pope Benedict's remarks on Islam. The statement by an umbrella group led by Iraq's branch of al Qaeda said "We tell the worshipper of the cross (the Pope) that you and the West will be defeated, as is the case in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya."

"We shall break the cross and spill the wine ... God will (help) Muslims to conquer Rome ... (May) God enable us to slit their throats, and make their money and descendants the bounty of the mujahideen," said the statement. The statement cited a hadith (saying of the Prophet Mohammed) promising Muslims they would "conquer Rome ... as they conquered Costantinople."

In Iraq's southern city of Basra, up to 150 demonstrators chanted slogans and burned a white effigy of the Pope.

On his part, French President Jacques Chirac refused on Monday to criticize the 79-year-old Pontiff, but called for a more diplomatic use of language. "It is not my role or my intention to comment on the Pope's statements. I simply want to say, on a general level ... that we must avoid anything that excites tensions between peoples or between religions," Chirac said on Europe 1 radio.

During his speech Friday in which the President argued for the gutting of the Geneva convention and the legal classification of torture, Bush made a strange comment about explosives and their placement in U.S. buildings. Was this a tacit admission of 9/11 controlled demolition? http://propagandamatrix.com/

You (muslims) have just proved the Pope's point! If it was a religion of peace...then why would you burn churches and threaten with more VIOLENCE! The people that I feel the most concern and sorry for are the arab christians, who seem to get the blunt of every comment made in the world!!! If it's a peaceful religion...then for once...try to demonstrate that!!!!

The comments of Concerned Arab from US shows he is totally blind about history as the Pope. Just show to us Muslims worldwide how many Christian churches have been bombed in a single day of Muslims history compared to the number of Muslim mosques that the Americans or Christians had destroyed in less than 24 hours of their occupation of Iraq. What do you call that act? Democracy? Concerned Arab just read your history without bias and prejudice against Muslims and dont use that Christian American perspective for once!

Its a great pity they never learn. They come and they go but these Popes keep on saying the same things over and over again. Only this it's done by a Pope who never read history. Drank too much red wine before his big speech. Must be dead drunk. Is this a lost sheep or a blind sheperd?

1-Muslims need to become political in life. Think twice before doing something or saying something. 2-Go to school and get the highest education for yourself and your family members. 3-Love all Muslims, all Christians, all jews, all Hindus and others. Judge people by their action and not by their look, behavior or religion.( Walla Taqtalu ) DO NOT KILL ! Those who kill are not Muslims and they might be manipulated by the Zionists.   How many demonstrators read the Pope's speech? He was refering to a historical fact and he apologized for upsetting the Moslems. There are so many problems in these countries and the people's priority is a speech that they didn't hear or read! May be they deserve the democraty they have! I hope not.
